It's been almost two months since my family and I arrived back in the Middle Georgia area and began the journey of planting New City Church Milledgeville (NCCM). As we approach the two month mark, I want to take a few moments to share a few reflections about the journey thus far.
1. God is faithful - When we left Kentucky a couple months ago, we also left stability and security in the areas of church and finances. But we were confident in God's calling on our lives to plant NCCM. Though at times I have wondered if I am insane or foolish, God has and continues to prove himself faithful over and over again. For example, Michael Moody, Lead Pastor at Journey Church in Griffin, GA, led his church to offer us monthly support. That was unexpected and awesome! God has provided me the opportunity to teach a couple classes and also has provided Lori with the opportunity to work as a nurse practitioner once a week. In other words, God has been faithful. He has met and continues to meet our needs.
2. God is at work in Milledgeville - In just two short months, God has done a lot toward the planting of NCCM. He has called a number of awesome people to join NCCM on the mission of seeing Milledgeville transformed by the gospel. He is opening opportunities for relationships with folks from many different walks of life. He is going before us and providing what we need as we work toward a September launch of preview services. In short, God is at work, and I am deeply grateful that He has allowed me to join him in his work in Milledgeville.
3. I love my city - Though it's only been a couple months, I have grown and continue to grow in my love for Milledgeville. I deeply desire to see Milledgeville transformed by the gospel. I long for NCCM to be an instrument God uses to effect real, lasting, gospel-centered change in Milledgeville. I want the best for my city.
There is much more I could say, but this is a start. God is faithful, he is at work in Milledgeville, and I love my city. I'm thankful for our first two months, and look forward to many more as the journey continues.
